Thank you for your interest in advancing Global Midwifery training by becoming an IRM CIM Preceptor.
Preceptors can be individual midwives, members of a practice, or even entire preceptor sites. We invite birth centers, maternity homes, private practices, and hospitals to register their facility as a preceptor site, allowing CIM students to benefit from learning with multiple preceptors in one location and gain diverse knowledge from various providers.
We accept a range of qualified preceptors with extensive experience in midwifery or obstetrics, including CIM, RM, LM, TM, DEM, CPM, CNM, CM, obstetricians, indigenous midwives, and those with other international certifications. Preceptor acceptance is evaluated on a case-by-case basis and is not solely determined by credentials.
Midwives without formal education, licensure or certification can offer valuable preceptor insight to CIM students. However, in the absence of knowledge verification through other credentialing pathways, we require a minimum of 5 years in primary practice and at least 250 births attended as the primary midwife. These requirements apply post-training and do not include births as a student.
Our program is rigorous, typically lasting 3-5 years, and we highly value preceptors with diverse skills and experience. CIM students are encouraged to train with multiple preceptors across a variety of birth settings worldwide.
